And yes, just like you read it. We finally made a deal with the SU to display students 3D printed designs in the University of Huddersfield Students' Union shop. This wasn't an easy thing to pull, so take your time to read this post.
The original idea started when we realised that our resources are capable of producing high end quality products that many individuals wanted to buy. However there was one small issue.
Students are busy
Now as we all know, the most consuming things for students are (not always in this order) the uni coursework, a part time job, and if there is some free time left, tv-series watching, partying or visiting back their families during the weekend. This means that fully engaging in a whole program of a society or parallel activities can be challenging.
After some thinking about the issue. The one question that kept repeating itself is how to get students to engage in their creative design hobbies, ameliorate their uni skills, and earn money at the same time.
Students' Union Shop deal
After explaining our idea to the SU, Emma Denny have been our initial contact with the SU shop. After showing our prototypes and discussing the different terms together, these were the final points:
All displayed 3D Prints will be designed by students (respecting other trademarks and the university common values)
Displayed 3D Prints will be accompanied with the students name, small bio, and if wanted a story behind the design.
We've agreed to begin by Keychains as a start.
What this means for you ?
Product designers, Fashion Designers, Art students, any student with a bit of 3D Design knowledge, this is one of the best chances to practice your design skills and why not create your own brand.
